Modern Advances in Liposuction
The latest in liposuction is called laser liposculpture. The laser used is called Erchonia. Erchonia laser liposculpure is a painless and not invasive liposuction treatment. This type of laser treatment is administered just before liposuction surgery begins. When the spot that is to be liposuctioned is treated with the laser, the eliminating of the fatty layers is made much quicker and more easily extracted. Also, there is less bruising and pain following the liposuction.
The erchonia laser treatment melts fatty tissues much like the ultra sound assisted liposuction which in turn makes it easier to remove. The Erchonia laser liposculpture is approved by the Federal Drug Administration to be used while performing liposuction. Studies show that using this laser can dramatically improve the resuls obtained from liposuction. The Erchonia laser liposuction is a low level laser treatment that is being used in many areas of cosmetic surgery.
Studies on use of the Erchonia laser treatment indicated that there was significantly less pain following liposuction when using the laser than when not using the laser. Those patients who were treated with the laser used fewer pain pills in the first two weeks following liposuction than those who were given a placebo and liposuction. With the laser, cosmetic surgeons were able to take out more fat each minute than with the placebo. This cut down on the time spent in the operting room.
One advantage of the Erchonia laser assisted liposuction over the ultra sound assisted liposuction is that the laser emits a cold source as opposed to the high heat of the ultra sound and there is less chance of burning of the skin. There have been no reports of seromas, or cavities being flushed with body fluid, when using the laser assisted liposuction method. Healing and recovery time when using the laser assisted liposuction is from two to five days of rest.
