Benefits of proper battery disposal
When scrap batteries or used batteries are properly disposed they are sent to the recycling plants. Recovering scrap metals has the advantage that it is much easier and less energy intensive than producing primary metals from ore. Secondary production of metals from scrap during recycling result in less solid waste, less energy usage and less consumption of mineral resources compared to the primary production from the ores. These metals are used in various industries like glass, textile, steel manufacturing etc. Over 50% of metals consumed are derived from re-cycled or re-used material. However they are indistinguishable from the primary metals produced from the ore. Apart from the judicious usage of resources, proper battery disposal is required for a pollution free environment also. When waste batteries are disposed and treated properly the emission of toxic metals and acids into the land, air and water gets reduced. Thus the entire eco-system gets saved.
